Stopover on the island of Aix and tour of Fort Boyard
Embark on a crazy adventure off the coast of Charente-Maritime
The island of Aix, the pearl of the Atlantic
Many tourists have their eyes riveted on the islands of Ré and Oléron. However, just next door, a small island is hidden, opposite Fouras. The island of Aix represents the peace and quiet of the Charente maritime territory. To discover it, forget the car right away!
Long before the world became ecologically aware, the "little Corsica" had already banned cars. Only local residents are allowed to use them on occasion. Otherwise, you have to reach the island by boat.
In about twenty minutes, depending on the tides, you can reach this corner of paradise. Afterwards, you can go on foot, by bicycle or by horse-drawn carriage.
Its size allows you to enjoy unusual experiences far from the coast.
- Visit Fort Liédot ;
- Go shellfishing;
- Sunbathing on the golden sandy beaches;
- Discover the island's museums...
How about a trip to Fort Boyard?
Whether you are on a stopover on the island of Aix or on a boat trip, you will be very close to the mythical fort of French television. Who hasn't wanted to chase the boyars under the Charente-Maritime sun and meet Père Fouras (don't pronounce the "s"!)?
We're going to make some disappointed people: the fort is inaccessible to the public. It belongs to the Charente-Maritime Departmental Council and is an integral part of the Rochefort Maritime Arsenal. Only the candidates of the TV game show are allowed to set foot on the monument to entertain you.
Nevertheless, take advantage of a nearby boat trip to admire it up close. Croisières Inter-îles offers guided tours to learn all about France's most famous fort.
Take a look! Père Fouras is waving at us from his lookout!
